Fun Facts About Babies: Little Wonders!
March 21, 2025
Hey Mama,
If you’re anything like me, you’re constantly amazed by the tiny humans you’re raising, right? :-)
There’s so much to learn about babies—things we wouldn’t believe unless we saw it for yourself!
So, here’s a little list of fun baby facts that will make us all smile. Enjoy!
No Tears, Just Big Feelings
Did you know newborns can’t cry real tears? Their tear ducts are still developing. So, while the sounds might break your heart, there won’t be any tears for a while.
Babies Have Extra Bones
Babies are born with about 300 bones—more than adults! As they grow, many of those bones fuse together. It’s like their bodies are designed to be flexible little adventurers.
No Kneecaps Yet
Fun fact: Babies don’t have kneecaps at birth. Instead, they have soft cartilage that’ll eventually turn into those little bones we all know. No kneecaps, no problem!
They’re Flexible
Because of all that cartilage and extra bones, babies are super bendy. It’s why they can twist and turn in ways that seem impossible for such tiny bodies.
Birthmarks Are Common
If your baby has a birthmark, don’t worry. Most of them are temporary and will fade as your little one grows. They’re just part of your baby’s unique story.
Eyes That Change
Ever noticed your baby’s eye color changing? It’s common. Babies born with blue eyes might have them shift to brown or green as their body develops.
Accents Before Words
Crazy but true: Babies can actually start picking up accents before they can even speak. Those sounds you make around them? They’re listening, and it’s shaping their little future voice.
They’re Nearsighted
Newborns are nearsighted, meaning they can see clearly only about 8-10 inches away (perfect for looking up at your face :-). Their vision will get sharper as they grow.
Hearing From the Inside
Your baby can hear you before they’re born. Around 20 weeks, they start listening to sounds like your voice. So yes, talk to them— they can hear you.
Natural Swimmers
Okay, they’re not winning any Olympic medals, but babies actually have a reflex to swim. It's all instinct—cute, right?
Mom’s Voice Is Familiar
Here’s the best part: Your baby recognizes your voice before birth. Imagine how comforting it must be to hear the sound of the person they’ve been listening to all along.
We, moms are living through something truly amazing. Every day brings new discoveries about these little beauties we’re raising. The more I learn, the more I can’t help but be in awe.
Our babies are full of surprises, and that’s what makes them so incredibly special.
Sending love and awe to all you mamas out there—keep soaking in the wonder.
