Have you ever fallen in love with a piece of children’s clothing and then talked yourself out of it?

Lace knit Melissa Cardigan with heart motifs and putt sleeves.

Maybe you’ve thought, “It’s probably hard to care for.” Or, “My child will outgrow it in no time.” Or even, “It’s more than I usually spend.”

If you’ve ever had those thoughts about my handmade cotton and bamboo knitwear, you’re not alone. I hear them often, and I’d love to share why these pieces are different from what you might imagine :-)

A lot of people assume handmade knits are delicate, high-maintenance, or like wool sweaters that need to be hand-washed. The truth is, my pieces are made from 100% natural yarns that are cotton and bamboo.

They are soft, breathable, and machine washable. You can simply pop them in on a gentle cycle, put into dryer for ten minutes and lay them flat to dry. It's that simple and easy.

No dry cleaning, no soaking sessions at the sink. Just easy, everyday care. That’s one reason so many families love them as machine washable kids clothing that actually lasts.

Another common worry is that kids grow so quickly the knitwear won’t last a season. But my cotton and bamboo knits have a natural stretch that moves with your child, and I design every piece with made-to-grow features like roomy fits, foldable cuffs, adjustable waists and straps. This means one sweater, cardigan, or romper can carry a child through growth spurts, multiple seasons, and often multiple years (take a peek at the customer reviews here).

Many moms tell me their child wore the same piece for two years before passing it down to a sibling or cousin, and it still looked beautiful. That’s the beauty of sustainable knitwear for babies and kids. I design them with both longevity and practicality in mind.

And then there’s the question of price. I know my heirloom-quality children’s clothes aren’t the cheapest option, and they’re not meant to be. Each piece is made slowly and ethically by skilled hands, using the best natural fibers I can find.

One knit can replace several fast fashion items because it’s built to withstand daily play and still look lovely for special occasions. When your child finally outgrows it, it’s not worn out. It’s a keepsake you can pass down or treasure for the memories. That’s what slow fashion clothing is about: making something that lasts far beyond a single season.

When you choose sustainable knitwear, you’re choosing more than clothing. You’re choosing comfort, durability, and a little piece of your family’s story. Something your child can live in now, and you can hold onto later.

If you’re curious, I invite you to explore my Ready-to-Ship collection for heirlooms you can have right away, or my Made-to-Order collection for something created just for your child and can be customized for free of charge.

These are pieces meant to be worn, loved, and remembered not just for one season, but for the story they’ll hold.

Is It Worth the Wait?

June 27, 2025

I know it’s not what we’re used to. I mean, waiting a little longer for something to be made. But that’s exactly what makes these heirloom knits special. In my artisan shop, most pieces are made to order, one at a time, using natural fibers and a whole lot of care. Here’s why I don’t rush it and why that extra time is part of the beauty.
