Have you ever wondered where all those trendy clothes end up after just one season?
Many of those cute, inexpensive pieces? They end up in landfills. Yes!
Because fast fashion is built to be disposable. The clothes are made to fall apart quickly so you'll buy more. It's a cycle that keeps repeating, and our planet is paying the price.
But here's something that might surprise you even more. Most fast fashion is made from synthetic materials like polyester and acrylic. These fabrics are basically plastic. They don't breathe, they don't break down, and every time you wash them, they shed microplastics into our water.
That's a big reason why I work with cotton and bamboo. Natural fibers are breathable, gentle on sensitive skin, and biodegradable. When a piece eventually reaches the end of its life (which takes many many years, not just a few months), it can return to the earth instead of sitting in a landfill for centuries.
Slow fashion is sustainable. It's about making pieces that last. Clothes you'll reach for again and again. Pieces that can be passed down. Things that won't fall apart after a few washes.
When I design knits, I'm not thinking about what's trending this season. I'm thinking about what will still feel special five years from now. What a parent will want to save for the next baby. What a child will remember wearing.
It's not just about the clothes. It's about the impact.
Every time you choose a handmade, well-made piece over a mass-produced one, you're saying no to waste. You're supporting small makers instead of giant corporations. You're choosing quality over quantity.
Thank you for being here and supporting this artisan shop's slow fashion journey.
