Okay, so here's something that happens all the time.
You're scrolling through the shop, and you see a cardigan or romper that just gets you. You can already picture your child wearing it on a Tuesday morning, maybe to the park, maybe just around the house. But then you pause.
Not because you don't love it. You do. But there's this voice that goes: What if it doesn't fit right?
I get it. I've been there too :-)
That moment where you're wondering if the sleeves will be too long for their arms, or if it'll be snug by the time it arrives, or if it'll end up being one of those pieces you love in theory but they never actually wear.
That hesitation? Totally valid. Let's talk about it.
Fit isn't just about the size on the tag
Here's the thing. When we talk about fit for kids, we usually jump straight to sizing. 6-12 months, 2T, 4T. But honestly? Fit is way more personal than that.
It's about how something moves with them. How it feels when they're playing. How it sits after they've been wearing it for a couple hours, not just in the first five minutes. Whether there's room to grow or if it needs to fit perfectly right now.
Two kids the same age can be the same size on paper but have completely different experiences with the same piece. Because bodies are different. Growth patterns are different. What fits perfectly on one toddler might feel a bit snug or a touch roomy on another.
And that doesn't make you picky. It just means you know your child.
You can totally ask questions
If you're eyeing a Ready-to-Ship (in stock) piece and you're not 100% sure, here's what I want you to know: you don't have to guess.
Seriously. Reach out. Ask about the fit. Ask for measurements, not the generic chart, but the actual measurements of that specific piece. The one in the photos. The one that's already made and waiting.
Sometimes one detail is all it takes to go from "hmm, maybe" to "yes, definitely." Maybe you need to know the chest width for your chunky toddler, or the length because your baby is tall for their age. And sometimes it helps you realize it's not quite right for where they are right now, and that's okay too.
The whole point isn't to talk yourself into something. It's to feel confident about it.
Made to Order = room to customize
Now, if what you're drawn to isn't in stock right now, Made-to-Order is a whole different vibe.
Because here's where we can actually have a conversation on customizations.
Maybe you know your child needs a bit more length in the body. Or extra room in the shoulders. Or sleeves that are just a touch longer because they're between sizes. Those aren't complicated asks. They're just part of making the piece work for your child.
And honestly? I love those conversations. They're part of what makes each piece special.
(And yes, this goes for the women's pieces and doll clothes too. If you're treating yourself to a cardigan or finding the perfect outfit for a beloved doll, the same care applies.)
Why I care so much about this
Look, I care about fit because I care about how these pieces are actually lived in.
These cotton and bamboo knits aren't just for special occasions. They're made for everyday life. Soft enough for all-day comfort. Breathable for year-round wear. Machine washable because real life happens.
A hand knit cardigan or romper should feel right when you reach for it on a regular morning. It should move with your child, not restrict them. It should be something they're comfortable in, not something you're constantly adjusting.
When something fits well, you kind of forget about it. Your child plays freely. You're not tugging at sleeves or worrying about snaps. And honestly? That's the best compliment.
Take your time with it
If you're unsure, pause. Ask questions. Pull out something from their closet that fits well. Send me a message. Let's compare measurements. Let's talk about how they'll wear it, whether it needs to last through a growth spurt or work for everyday adventures. I am here to help. And, customizations are free of charge.
