Why I Love Cotton and Bamboo Knits (and Why You Might, Too)
June 18, 2025
When I started my artisan shop, I made a simple decision: to only use materials I'd feel good dressing my own child in. That's why every piece in my collections is made from cotton and bamboo. No synthetics. No blends. Just breathable, skin-friendly yarns that feel gentle and wear beautifully.
Over time, I've come to love these fibers not just for how they look, but for how they hold up through washing, wiggling, growing, and everyday life.
Here's why I keep coming back to them and why I think you'll love them, too.
Soft Enough for the Most Sensitive Skin
Some knits look cute but feel itchy. These don't. Cotton has a cozy, lived-in softness that only gets better with time. Bamboo feels buttery-smooth and cool to the touch. A great choice for kids with eczema, sensitivities, or texture aversions.
I reach for these yarns when I want something that just feels good - the kind of comfort you don't have to think twice about.
Perfect in Every Season
Both cotton and bamboo are naturally breathable, which makes them great for year-round wear. They help regulate temperature, keeping your little one cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Bamboo is especially moisture-wicking and thermoregulating, so it never feels sticky or sweaty.
One knit, four seasons. That's the goal.
They Stretch and Grow with Your Child
Knits have a natural give to them and I design each piece to make the most of that stretch. Bonnets stay snug without squeezing. Sweaters have room to grow. Rompers flex with every kick and crawl.
Because little ones don't grow on a schedule and their clothes shouldn't have to either.
Machine Washable (Really)
I'm a big fan of beautiful things that are also practical. This is machine washable baby knitwear made for real life: cotton and bamboo knits that are durable and easy to care for. I recommend a gentle cycle and laying flat to air dry on a towel after tossing into the dryer for 10 to 15 minutes.
We moms know life is busy, and these knits are made to handle it.
Kind to the Earth
Cotton is a natural fiber with a long history of comfort and reliability. Bamboo grows quickly with less water and no pesticides and is just as biodegradable when responsibly processed.
I choose these yarns with care because I believe soft, heirloom quality baby knitwear shouldn't come at the planet's expense. This is ethical handmade baby clothing made the slow way, on purpose.
